WHAT IS

THE RESEARCH CENTRE?

CIES’s Research Centre and Intercultural Library was born in 1983: it provides tools for the implementation of activities focusing on global citizenship information and education, interculturalism and globality.

 

The Centre offers a wide range of materials to be read and borrowed, classified according to a carefully designed system. It is available to teachers, researchers, individual students and classes, cultural operators and associations.

Besides, it provides support and consultancy services, helps organise learning workshops in schools, and hosts presentations of works (books, videos) by Italian and foreign authors.

 

Approximately 12,000 titles are available (books, videos, documents); they were classified thanks to the CDS/ISIS software designed by Unesco, Windows version (WINISIS). Approximately 3,000 titles are already available on the SebinaOpacRMS website.

 

The centre also offers several Italian and foreign magazines dealing with development, interculturalism and migration.

At the end of 2004, our Centre became a library of local interest. A regional law recognising the value of regional book heritage (L.R. 42/97) entered into force and the Association of Municipal Libraries of Rome has recognised the high value of the Centre’s materials and services.

 

Since May 30th, 2006, the Centre has been part of a project called “Dissemination of SBN (the National Library System) in the region”, by the Lazio Region’s Department for Culture and Sports – Museum, Archive, Library Sector.

 

In 2007, the Centre was recognised as a Centre of Local Interest in the National Library System (SBN).

 

Since 2002, it has cooperated with the Inter Religious Table of Rome and since 2011 it has hosted the organisational meetings of the Table, which includes several associations working in the fields of migration, culture, and interculture.

The Research Centre organizes meetings revolving around CIES Onlus projects. The facilities in Via Delle Carine 4 are available for events, initiatives, presentations of books and videos.
